This advanced procedure uses medical skin needling to stimulate the skin to repair itself naturally and safely following sun damage. It is less painful, invasive and costly than surgery or other procedures such as laser re-surfacing which often need significant recovery periods or “downtime” and can result in artificial changes.
Dermaticians only use The Genuine Dermaroller™ (for professional use only). It is a single use Class 2A device (1.5mm) which is rolled over the skin creating thousands of microscopic tunnels. A detailed consultation is carried out to prior to this treatment which requires only a topical (surface) anaesthetic and typically takes 30 – 60 minutes depending on the area being treated.
Once the skin has been treated, the repair (regeneration) process takes time – it can take 2 weeks for visible signs of improvement but the process will continue over several months providing a gradual and long lasting enhancement.
Collagen induction therapy using skin needling is mainly carried out on the face, neck, décolletage and hands but it can also be used on other parts of the body i.e. for scar repair, stretch mark reduction.
What happens during the treatment?
A detailed consultation is carried out and a topical or surface anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect the skin is “rolled” and this typically takes 30 minutes (face only).
And immediately following the procedure?
The skin will take on the appearance of mild or moderate sunburn. This normally recovers within hours with only a little residual redness the following day. For 2 weeks post treatment, an oxygenating cream is applied twice a day followed by a moisturising sun protection cream.
How many treatments are needed?
3 – 4 procedures are recommended for anti-ageing and sun damaged skin and normally 6 weeks are left between each treatment.
A 0.2mm Dermaroller is recommended for home use between treatments in combination with a collagen boost product to obtain optimum results. This can be supplied by Dermaticians.
